Get yourself a jumpsuit/romper!

Originally published under Tips and Doodads

I know, you think it's so retro (think Diana Ross or Elvis). But utility never goes out of style!

The jumpsuit's origins aren't as sketchy as other popular clothing items. The garment was created initially for parachuters (and later skydivers) to achieve the maximum aerodynamical efficiency possible.

Of course, with the onset of the 60s in particular, fashion gurus decided that it could be a rather useful clothing design, and it started popping up everywhere. You'd be hard-pressed to find a disco music video without at least a few people sporting this new style.

After it's glory decades, it faded into obscurity (as most trends do). The only "fashion" jumpsuits you saw around were those made by Oshkosh.

Recently, the garment has seen a sort of rebirth—and why not? It's a fabulously simple yet fun piece of clothing. There's a style that works for all body types and skin tones. It really doesn't get any easier than slipping on one piece of clothing (or layering if necessary) and popping on some jewelry.

People tend to get confused as to what the difference between a romper and a jumpsuit is. The former tends to refer to shorter variations of the latter. Think "romper" for "rump." So essentially, the one pictured above would be a— yes you guessed it—romper.

Still have doubts? You really shouldn't, just go for it! You'll be absolutely hooked.

Fondly,
The Style Scribe
